‘Substantial’ discussions held between IAEA chief, Iran deputy FM
TEHRAN- The Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), reported having “Substantial” discussions with Kazem Gharib Abadi, Iran’s deputy foreign minister for legal and international affairs in Vienna.
Rafael Grossi shared on the social media platform X on Thursday, “I had a timely and substantive exchange with Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister @Gharibabadi in preparation for my upcoming visit to Tehran.”
The discussions between Grossi and Gharib Abadi primarily revolved around the present condition of Iran's nuclear program and its adherence to international agreements, the UN nuclear watchdog said.
During the meeting, Gharib Abadi reportedly emphasized the significance of cooperation between Iran and the agency, highlighting the need for the UN atomic oversight body to maintain impartiality and professionalism as a specialized organization.
He also reaffirmed that Iran's peaceful nuclear activities consistently align with its international obligations, including the Non-Proliferation Treaty.
As Grossi prepares for his forthcoming visit to Tehran, it is anticipated that he and Iranian officials will further explore critical matters concerning nuclear inspections, verification, and transparency.
Rafael Grossi's recent visit to Tehran in May involved discussions with Iranian officials regarding various aspects of the country’s nuclear program. Following this trip, Grossi expressed that he perceived an increased openness from Iranian officials to deepen collaboration with the IAEA.
Iran's cooperation with the IAEA is already among the most extensive in the world.
