U.S. reacts to Leader’s warnings, asks Iran to avoid retaliation for Israeli strikes
TEHRAN – The U.S. State Department has asked the Islamic Republic of Iran to refrain from retaliating against recent Israeli attacks on Iranian territory, reacting to the comments made by the Leader of Islamic Revolution that Iran’s response will be “tooth-breaking.”
During a press briefing on Monday, State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller reiterated Washington's call for "restraint", specifically asking Iran to avoid responding to recent airstrikes Israel targted Iran with.
Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei recently delivered a warning to Iran’s adversaries, including the United States and Israel, stating, “The enemies, including the U.S. and the Zionist regime, should know that they will undoubtedly receive a tooth-breaking response for what they do against Iran and the Resistance Front.”
Iranian officials have pledged to avenge Israel’s act of aggression targeting two Iranian border provinces, Ilam and Khuzestan, as well as central Tehran in the early hours of October 26.
Since early October 2023, Israel has been waging brutal two-front aggression that has killed more than 43,400 people in the Gaza Strip and at least 3,000 others in Lebanon so far.
Over the same period, the usurping regime has also assassinated several Resistance leaders, including Hamas’s political bureau chief Ismail Haniyeh and Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah.
The U.S. has never asked Israel to "practice restraint" during the past year.
