In Iranian cinema literature, the term "first film director" holds a significant place, referring to filmmakers who, after years of effort and perseverance, succeed in creating their first feature film. This book explores the journeys of young filmmakers who have often transitioned from the initial stages of filmmaking, particularly the production of short films.
The serious pursuit of short films in Iran commenced around sixty years ago, and contrary to the perception in some countries, short films are recognized in Iran as serious and professional works. Practitioners in this field strive to showcase their skills to producers through the creation of short films, aiming for entry into the professional cinema landscape.
"First Film Memoirs" introduces the experiences of these young filmmakers, using the interview format to provide insightful details for cinema enthusiasts. The author highlights the impact of social media and new platforms on the economics of short films as well.
This book has been published in collaboration with the Iranian Young Cinema Society with interviews taking place in the spring of 2021 and are organized by the age of the interviewees, offering a suitable historical perspective for the reader.
