Taliban agrees to extradite Afghan prisoners held in Iran
TEHRAN – Afghanistan's acting Foreign Minister, Amir Khan Muttaqi, has pledged cooperation with Iran on the extradition of Afghan prisoners held within Iranian borders.
This commitment was voiced during a Sunday meeting with Iran's Deputy Justice Minister for International and Human Rights Affairs, Askar Jalalian, as reported by IRNA.
The meeting highlighted the importance of ongoing cooperation between Tehran and Kabul, particularly concerning Afghan refugees and prisoners. Muttaqi expressed gratitude to Iran for its longstanding hospitality towards Afghan refugees over the past four decades and reaffirmed the Taliban interim government's dedication to facilitating the prisoner extradition process.
Jalalian, who previously engaged in discussions on this matter with Mohammad Yousuf Mestari, the acting head of Afghanistan's Prisons Administration, confirmed Iran's readiness to commence the extradition procedures.
The Taliban interim government's public affirmation of this commitment is strategically significant, as it could bolster bilateral relations with Iran and foster broader regional cooperation.
