American sympathies shift dramatically toward Palestinians per new Gallup poll

New Gallup polling reveals a dramatic shift in American sympathies toward Palestinians, marking the first time support has reached parity after decades of lopsided favor for Israel, AP reported Friday.

American sympathies shift dramatically toward Palestinians per new Gallup poll

While 54% of Americans sided with Israelis three years ago, current data shows 41% now sympathize more with Palestinians compared to 36% for Israelis.

This trend accelerated during the Gaza war but began as early as 2017, partly due to declining favorability for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Political affiliation remains a primary divider; approximately two-thirds of Democrats and 40% of independents now favor Palestinians, while 70% of Republicans maintain their traditional support for Israel.

Age also plays a critical role, with half of adults aged 18 to 34 expressing Palestinian sympathy compared to only a quarter for Israelis. Even among those over 55, Israeli support has hit its lowest point since 2005.

Despite the ongoing conflict, 57% of U.S. adults support an independent Palestinian state, including three-quarters of Democrats.
