TEHRAN – Whatever intentions and calculations some regional leaders have, there is a concern that their peoples will grow accustomed to the killing, criminality, massacres, and daily terror that have turned the lives of millions across West Asia into an unbearable hell.
As the protective umbrellas of distant powers grow increasingly tattered, and as regional wars and broken global institutions feed on each other, China is emerging as a constructive force for regional security and improved global governance.
TEHRAN — Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf has welcomed China’s call for a new security architecture in the Middle East, saying regional countries must take control of their own security and future and stressing that lasting stability cannot be achieved through arrangements imposed by outside powers.
LONDON — The policy of the West Asia region is drawn based on political dynamics. These are either constants that are not subject to change or variables. This is especially with regard to the political situation in Lebanon and Syria, and the regional or international sponsorship of political directions.
TEHRAN — Three leaders signed a promise inside Al-Safa Palace on Friday: an armed attack on Saudi Arabia, Turkey or Pakistan will be treated as an attack on all three. Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan compared the clause to NATO’s Article 5. The full text stays sealed, unread outside the rooms where it was drafted. Persian has a phrase for exactly this situation: a watermelon still in its rind, “Hendevaneh-ye dar basteh.”
