Iran warns of global retaliation if Israeli attack targets Lebanese embassy

TEHRAN – Iran’s Armed Forces issued a sweeping ultimatum on Wednesday, threatening to strike Israeli embassies worldwide in response to any future aggression against its diplomatic post in Lebanon.

Brigadier General Abolfazl Shekarchi, the senior spokesperson for the Iranian military, delivered the warning during an interview with Iranian television, specifically referencing recent threats attributed to the “criminal regime of Israel.” General Shekarchi noted that Israel has “repeatedly demonstrated a disregard for international boundaries and norms.”

He emphasized that the Islamic Republic, despite having “significant capabilities,” has thus far shown deliberate restraint to honor international diplomatic protocols. General Shekarchi further described Iran as a global partner, stating, “Apart from the United States and the Israeli regime, Iran maintains no hostility or conflict with any other nation,” contrasting Tehran’s commitment to constructive engagement with that of its adversaries.

The core of the new policy shift, as formalized by General Shekarchi, is that an attack on Iran’s consulate in Lebanon would immediately justify treating all Israeli embassies globally as legitimate targets. “If the Zionist regime commits such an act of aggression, we will undoubtedly take reciprocal action,” he declared, establishing an unequivocal red line.

General Shekarchi also reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to retaliating against both Israel and its “primary ally, the United States,” for the ongoing conflict against the Iranian nation.

Last week, Israel struck Tehran’s central command for the diplomatic police, an entity solely tasked with safeguarding diplomatic missions and embassies within the country. This follows the 2024 bombing of Iran’s embassy in Syria, an attack that resulted in numerous fatalities.
