Culture minister’s statement on election of new Leader of Islamic Revolution
TEHRAN – The Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance issued a statement on Monday following the selection of Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Khamenei as the new Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution.

“In these days when the Iranian nation is mourning the martyrdom of its courageous leader and the innocent children, women, and men of this land, and at the same time steadfastly stands on the path of honor and independence, the announcement of the leadership of Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Khamenei by the Assembly of Experts with an overwhelming majority of votes signifies the continuation of the path of the Islamic Revolution and the safeguarding of its ideals,” IRNA quoted Seyyed Abbas Salehi as saying.
“I consider this selection to be a continuation and renewal of the same promise that the Iranian nation has made with the path of the martyrs, especially the martyred leader of this land, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei,” the message continued.
The minister ended the message saying: “Undoubtedly, the Iranian nation, under the guidance of the new leadership and relying on the precious legacy of Imam Khomeini and the martyred leader of the Revolution, will continue its path of honor and pride, and the enemies of this land, especially the U.S. and the Zionist regime, will once again be frustrated before the will of this nation”.
Iran's Assembly of Experts has chosen Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Khamenei to serve as the third Leader of the Islamic Revolution. He is the son of Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, Iran's second Leader, who was assassinated by the U.S. and Israel on February 28.
The U.S. and Israel attacked Iran last Saturday and have so far martyred over 1,000 people including the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei and several military commanders as well as civilians, among them women and children.
Iran and the U.S. had agreed to attend a fourth round of nuclear talks in Vienna next week, following their most serious discussions in Geneva last Thursday. However, the U.S. derailed diplomatic negotiations with Iran just like the previous time in June 2025, launching a bombing campaign against Iran in conjunction with Israel.
The attacks prompted a swift response from the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC), with missile and drone launches targeting Israel and several U.S. bases in the region, occurring less than two hours after the strikes, which have been intensified in recent days.
