Life goes on, civic services underway despite attacks

TEHRAN – Despite the ongoing attacks by the U.S. and the Zionist regime against the country, people in Tehran, as in other cities, have no problem benefiting from civic services to meet their daily needs thanks to the efforts of responsible organizations.

Life goes on, civic services underway despite attacks

Since the start of the aggression on February 28, Tehran Municipality has provided accommodation for over 1,000 families affected by the war.

According to Abdol-Motahar Mohammadkhani, the spokesperson of Tehran Municipality, a total of 3,200 individuals have been accommodated in 12 emergency shelters, particularly in hotels.

A team of counsellors are providing services to the war- affected individuals in these hotels, testing their psychosocial health, and offering specialized counselling services when needed to prevent further psychological problems.

Tehran Municipality is planning to setup tents for crisis management in every single place that is affected by war to calculate the damages and help accommodate those whose houses are destroyed in airstrikes.

The people whose cars have been damaged can refer to these tents or Tehran Municipality to report the damage. The damages will be assessed by the experts to be paid by government through Iran Insurance Company later.

Since the outbreak of the war, whenever an area has been targeted by the aggressors, the firefighters and the staff member of the Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS) have been among the first to be dispatched to the affected areas.

The staff member of Tehran Municipality in cooperation with firefighters and the IRCS staff help remove debris, save trapped individuals, and clear ways and roads.

Thanks to Tehran Municipality, public transportation is providing free of charge services; the subways and bus rapid transit systems are operating 24/7.

People in Tehran, as in other parts of the country, have no problem going to stores to buy essential goods and basic food. There are 316 fruit and vegetable markets affiliated with the municipality, working from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Moreover, many chain stores are providing services all the day.

Tehran Municipality has located about 81 subway stations, some schools, and business units to be used as shelters; currently, 32 out of 81 subway stations can be used as shelters, Mohammadkhani noted.

The municipality also helps affected families, who have lost a member during airstrikes, with funeral ceremony.

To ensure the food security and support the production of strategic agricultural products such as wheat, barley, cooking oil, one thousand tons of urea fertilizer have been distributed among farmers in Tehran province by the agricultural support services organization in Tehran.

Meanwhile, the health ministry has been offering medical services ceaselessly in Tehran as well as other provinces of the country. These services include conducting health screening tests for patients suffering from diabetes, and hypertension, providing newborns with vaccinations, and psychological counselling.

On the occasion of Nowruz holidays, beginning on Saturday, the Health Insurance Organization has launched a program, announcing that hospitals and medical centers affiliated with the organization will be ready to provide medical services to insured people during holidays.

To implement the program more successfully, the organisation has formed Nowruz headquarters for the management of treatment procedures in different provinces across the country, IRNA reported.

They have also taken necessary measures to make sure ambulances, healthcare, and medicine are available and ready to be used.

Hospitals and medical centers affiliated with the Health Insurance Organization will provide round-the-clock services, and the managers will oversee the way in which patients receive services.

Readiness to fix water, power, gas networks

The deputy governor general of Tehran Province has said 900 technical teams are prepared to fix and repair water, electricity, and gas networks across the province that may be damaged during the attacks.

“All (gas) stations have sufficient reserves and provide services to people,” IRIB quoted Kamal Mir-Jafarian as saying.

CNG and gasoline stations are operating and fuel have been provided from other provinces, he added.

Referring to the situation of water, electricity, and gas facilities in the province, the official said that a working group has been formed to investigate all issues related to infrastructure and superstructure.

If any of the water, power, and gas facilities are damaged, technical teams are prepared to fix the problem as soon as possible, he stressed.

Firefighting and rescue teams are also prepared to be dispatched to different places. In Tehran, Rey, and Tajrish, the Municipality of Tehran is tasked with removing debris. In other cities, the municipality and the housing foundation do the job, the deputy governor general concluded.

People line up for blood donation

The people of Tehran from all walks of life refer in large numbers to blood donation centers to give blood and help treat the citizens injured during the U.S.-Israeli airstrikes, demonstrating their strong bonds of sympathy and solidarity.

In the days when the country is in a state of war, blood donation centers in Tehran showcase scenes of sacrifice and solidarity. Here, Ramadan is not only a month of fasting; it is also a month of sympathy.

During the first 12 days of the imposed U.S.-Israeli attacks on Iran, more than 241,800 individuals donated blood, indicating a 49-percent growth compared to 12-day war in June.
