Lebanese participant in 19th Cinema Verite injured in Israeli attacks on Lebanon

TEHRAN – Young Lebanese filmmaker Hussein Kanso, who was present in Iran for the 19th Iran International Documentary Film Festival “Cinema Verite” has been injured in the recent attacks by the Zionist regime on Lebanon.

Kanso, who attended the Gaza competition section of 19th Cinema Verite with his documentary “Waed” in December 2025, was forced to leave his home because of the Israeli attacks, Mehr reported.

In a message sent to the international unit of the Documentary & Experimental Film Center, Kanso wrote about his current condition:

“Israel bombed my house in southern Lebanon. I was recently discharged from the hospital. Please pray for me. Please inform [people] about the crimes that Israel is committing in Lebanon.”

“They target civilians in their homes; southern Lebanon is attacked every five minutes; my leg and arm were injured by the bombing. I am going through difficult days; I wish you and the people of Lebanon good health”.

Written, directed, edited, and produced by Kanso, the documentary “Waed” is about life in Gaza, the bombing of the region by Israel, and the situation of Palestinian families.

The short documentary film that was shot in southern Lebanon, a region that has suffered from war. The film includes no interviews or dialogues, only natural sounds and music, allowing the viewer to focus solely on the destruction.

Israeli bombardment across Lebanon has so far killed 570 and wounded 1,444 others, according to the latest update from the Disaster Risk Management Unit at the Lebanese Prime Minister’s Office.

The report also indicated that approximately 759,300 people have been displaced, with many registering in shelters across the country as the conflict intensifies, Middle East Monitor reported on Wednesday.

Israeli forces continued their air campaign on Tuesday, striking multiple locations across Lebanon and causing further casualties and widespread destruction of homes and infrastructure.

Israeli warplanes carried out airstrikes on the southern suburbs of Beirut as well as several towns in southern Lebanon, including Qana, Tyre, Hanawiya, Adloun, Adshit, Majdal Selm, Kfar Rumman, Haboush, Deir Antar, Srifa, Yater, Beit Leef, Qantara, Doueir, Kfar Jouz, Jishit, Kfar Tibni, Shahabiya, Breiqa and Barashit.

Meanwhile, the Israeli army issued renewed warnings to residents of Beirut’s southern suburbs and areas south of the Litani River, urging them to evacuate as airstrikes and surveillance flights intensified.

Lebanese airspace has witnessed heavy overflights by Israeli warplanes and drones during the ongoing operations.

In a separate incident on Monday, an Israeli airstrike targeted a house in the southern Lebanese town of Al-Namiriya, killing six members of the same family while they were having breakfast, according to local reports.
