Envoy details US, Israeli use of regional airspace in attacks on Iran
TEHRAN- Iran’s ambassador to the United Nations, Amir Saeid Iravani, has sent seven letters to Secretary-General António Guterres, formally protesting the use of several regional countries’ territory and airspace by the United States and Israel in attacks against Iran.

In the letters, Iravani said the operations were conducted through the territory and airspace of Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Qatar and Kuwait. He described the involvement of these countries as “entirely evident.”
Iravani wrote that Iran’s Foreign Ministry had called on the governments of those nations to adhere to the principle of good neighborliness and to prevent the continued use of their territory for actions against Iran.
In one letter, he said that in late February the United States carried out an attack on Iran “in violation of the fundamental principles and rules of international law.”
He also noted that the United States and Israel carried out coordinated strikes on multiple targets in Tehran, assassinating senior Iranian officials as well as civilians.
Since then, he said, Iranian armed forces have responded with missile and drone strikes targeting Israeli-held areas and U.S. bases in the region.
“During this cowardly assault,” Iravani wrote, “the facilities, territory and airspace of certain regional states, including Jordan, were placed at the disposal of the aggressors.”
He added that fighter jets operating from a U.S. military base in Jordan had carried out strikes against Iran’s southern provinces.
While emphasizing that Iran respects the sovereignty of these countries, Iravani said Tehran “reserves the right to take appropriate measures, including the exercise of its inherent right to self-defense,” to protect its sovereignty, territorial integrity and political independence.
